WHAT WE TREAT

Eating Disorders

Eating disorders and disordered eating patterns are often far more complex than food, weight,
or appearance alone.

For many individuals, there can be an exhausting internal struggle between the part of
themselves longing for peace, connection, self-acceptance, and healing — and another part that
has learned to cope through restriction, binge eating, emotional eating, over-exercising, purging
behaviours, body checking, perfectionism, or obsessive thoughts surrounding food and
appearance.

Over time, these patterns can begin to feel automatic and deeply intertwined with identity,
emotional safety, self-worth, control, or protection from difficult emotions and life experiences.

At 3rd Eye Hypnotherapy Clinic, Eating Disorder Counselling offers a compassionate and
supportive space to begin understanding these patterns more deeply — not through shame,
criticism, or punishment, but through emotional awareness, self-understanding, and healing.

Many individuals struggling with eating disorders describe feeling as though there are “two parts” inside of them:

● one part longing to heal and reconnect with life

● another part overwhelmed by fear, self-criticism, emotional pain, or the need for control

Therapy may help individuals begin strengthening the healthier, more compassionate inner voice that often becomes overshadowed over time by anxiety, shame, perfectionism, fear, or eating disorder thoughts and behaviours.

Rather than viewing eating disorder behaviours as simply “bad” or something to aggressively fight against, therapy may involve exploring what these patterns have been attempting to protect, numb, control, communicate, or help the individual cope with emotionally.

Using an integrative approach that combines counselling support with clinical hypnotherapy, sessions may support individuals in:

  • increasing emotional awareness
  • reducing shame and self-criticism
  • building self-compassion
  • strengthening healthier coping patterns
  • improving emotional regulation
  • reconnecting with identity beyond the eating disorder
  • developing a healthier relationship with food, body image, and self-worth

Support may help with:

• Disordered eating patterns

• Emotional eating

• Binge eating behaviours

• Restrictive eating patterns

• Body image struggles

• Body dysmorphia

• Anxiety surrounding food or appearance

• Perfectionism and self-criticism

• Shame and self-worth struggles

• Emotional overwhelm and stress

Healing is not about perfection.

For many individuals, recovery begins by learning to reconnect with themselves more compassionately, understanding the emotional roots beneath behaviours, and gradually strengthening the healthier inner self that may have become buried beneath fear, shame, criticism, or emotional pain.

Each therapeutic journey is approached with care, sensitivity, and respect for the complexity of healing.
